Heinz was born on June 20, 1944, in Hellikon, Switzerland to Hans and Alice Meier. Heinz is survived by his wife and soul mate, Lotti, of 45 years, a sister, Jeannette (Bruno) Schneider, and a brother, Peter Meier, Godchildren, Susanne, Thomas, Aaron and Brooklyn, several nieces and nephews, kindred spirit, Margaret, and Tom Baldwin and sister-in-law Fran Matthews.
Heinz immigrated to Canada in 1969 and worked with Meyer Brothers Masonry until illness forced early retirement. Heinz was highly creative and a stickler for details which was evident in completed projects for others and at home.
Heinz loved his family. He had a special bond with brothers-in-law, Ernie, Jakob and Will. He enjoyed spending time with the youngsters and sharing stories of the past and listening to their dreams and goals. Heinz was best friend to Lotti, always loving and devoted.
Heinz loved life, and treasured every moment, every situation. In his early years, he participated in gymnastics, track and field, soccer and stock car racing.
He had a love of the true English language. He devoured many British novels and studied the structure and its dynamics.
He loved all kinds of music, gospel, jazz, country, rock. He had a beautiful voice, and could play the piano by ear.
He had a wonderful sense of humour. He could always see the fun in things.
Heinz was most kind and generous to all he met. He had a deep empathy for those less fortunate, and gave quietly without fanfare his time, energy and finances.
Heinz loved exploring traveling , studying different cultures and societies.
Hiking was one of his greatest passion, enjoying nature and all the gifts of it. He always wanted to see what was around the next bend or over the next peak.
The last few years have not been kind, health wise to Heinz. He endured many procedures which benefited future cardiac and kidney patients more than himself. But he was never bitter, being thankful for all life. He often said, "It's been one hell of a ride." Having had three after death experiences, Heinz knew exactly where he was going after this earthly life.
Heinz touched everyone he met and brought forth the best in all. He will be sadly missed, but a piece of him lives in each of us who had the privilege of knowing him.
