Was thinking about you the other day and wish we could still enjoy our random conversations about life. Too much laughing, miss you buddy.

My friend and professional consultant on all things 
structural. James always made a moment of his busy day
to invite me into his office. Once I sat down I would 
admire his heaping pile of paperwork where he would 
search out my file. We would chat about the weather
price of hockey tickets and the out of control bureaucracy. 
Funny I was thinking of James yesterday he was on my mind
and when I opened my email his smiling face greeted me
in his memory announcement. Always have wonderful 
memories of James one of a true professional.

My heart goes out to the Hum and KNH families. It is not often that one meets such an honorable and sincere person. I was lucky I had the chance to become friends with James and will miss him immensely. Thanks for all your help along the way.

I was so sad to hear of James' passing. Too young for a man who brought such warmth and humour to so many of us. My condolences to the Hum family and to the KNH family too. 
Like Dave Lyall, James helped me move out west in the 90's for an opportunity. I'll forever appreciate that. James and I went to McGill 35 years ago, and I was looking forward to talking with him about a reunion with our old friends planned this Fall. James we will miss you.

James was very hospitable and generous and loved to laugh and have fun. He  always made time for you. His KNH golf tournaments were outstanding.  He hosted a hockey pool every year for as long as I can remember, He will be missed.

James always had an inviting kindness and availability of the requests to meet and solve problems that you put in front of
him. 

Then when business was done.  You would discuss life!  He would always ask how you doing?  What’s going on!  Discuss Hockey.  I think you could pick any topic with him and have a great conversation.  

And I am sure you all have experienced him leaning back in his chair and put his fingers together and let the conversation flow. 

James honestly cared about his colleague’s.  The people that graced his office where not just a number in a book.  

James you still are and will always be a man that I will admire for the rest of time.

My husband and I had only known James for the past few years but we were so impressed with his kindness,  intelligence and witty personality!  He was such a wonderful person. Everything I ever heard about him showed the respect and love that friends had for him.  We’re so sad that he passed on at such a young age and because he really enjoyed life. RIP James, you’re very sadly missed. 

I will be forever grateful to James for facilitating my move from Toronto to the Lower mainland back in 1993. Moving to BC was a life changer for me. BC is where I was able to grow personally set permanent roots. I always enjoyed occasionally visiting James at his old office on Latimer Road when I was picking up my son and daughter from school. He always took the time to meet with me and catch up.

Our condolences to James' family and co-workers at KNH.  James was well loved and respected in the building industry, he will truly be missed.  Many people in this industry today have been effected positively by James' advice, guidance, and encouragement.  He will be missed.

James was a true gem - one in a million! I can honestly say that James was selfless and kind beyond measure. He always put others before himself. He was the most thoughtful, genuine and generous (both in spirit and mind) man..and had an AWESOME sense of humour! My heart is so broken for this loss to all of us - he was so much part of our family and his KNH family. I’m so grateful to have known him and spent many memorable moments with him.  He will be honoured, cherished and treasured in our hearts always.

Ive known James on a business relationship for over 20years.
As a builder and engineer myself its been a pleasure to work through dozens of projects with him. He was one of the very few engineers Ive known who had enough skill and self confidence that he would give me instant answers over the phone if I had a problem, rather than spending weeks preparing drawings etc. We always seemed to be on the "same page" and I had great respect for him and his skill at working out a "buildable" solution to a tricky problem. I will miss our cheery phone calls.
There are not many engineers left like that, I will certainly miss him greatly.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of my Uncle James (Jimmy). I was hoping to have the chance to see him again since he moved to Vancouver. Unfortunately that opportunity will not come, but we always kept in touch through the cards we exchanged with my grandmother Anne. I would send them pictures of my family and children so they could see them growing up. I hope he rests in peace and does not suffer anymore. I send all my support and love to my father Wah Lun and my grandmother Anne.

It was always difficult for me to keep up with James in a conversation. It took me a long time to figure out that I had to remember everything that was discussed during a conversation with him. Because out of the blue he would sneak in a humorous comment. The comment would link the discussion at present with what was said before, and it didn't matter what the subject matter was. If i didn't remember what was said before, I wouldn't get his joke, but, if i did remember, i would be blessed with the genius of his humor, and ability to weave humor into the conversation.

James always wanted to give me work, and he always respected me, and what i did, and he always made me feel like was someone.

I miss him so much already, and always will,

James was especially kind.  He always asked how you were doing and had to be pushed to talk about himself.  Year in and year out, holiday after holiday, work event upon work event, he did for others without expecting anything in return.  

Sardonic, but in a good way, he  was a rare combination of caring and quick-wittedness.  Every phone conversation started off with a  joke or a memorable turn of phrase, and there was usually more than one joke. If you happened to say something funny yourself his laughter was immediate, loud and unrestrained. 

I am sad that my friend will not be returning to my workaday world: he won't be calling me out of the blue; he won't be stopping by our office; and he won't be standing up to greet me in a restaurant. 

Whenever I said a common prayer over a shared lunch James would add, Amen.  Now, as then, I have nothing more to say.

I knew James since 1990, He trained my on the old TrussWall software in La Belle Province. He moved afterwards to BC but we stayed in touch over the years and i always made him laugh. I was very sad and emotional when i heard that James has passed away.

My condolences to all of his family, friends and co-workers, He will be greatly miss.

My warmest sympathies go out to family and friends of James, he will be surely missed, He was such a positive warm human being and always took the time to make people feel welcome and respected. I thoroughly enjoyed dealing with him over the last 25 years and also his staff. 

James has been one of greatest friends I have ever had. I have known him for 35 years. There has never been a friend as kind and generous and as wise as James. I grieve with his mother and all those who truly loved him.  There is a spot missing in our hearts that can never be filled. 



Such a wonderful time spent in Vegas with James and friends. Vegas won’t be the same without him. James will be greatly missed by the Randall family.  we will remember you always James.  Rest In Peace.

We were saddened to hear of the passing of our friend James.  I enjoyed years of professional relationship as well as personal relationship.  James was kind and generous to a fault.  Sharon and I enjoyed our times together with him.  We enjoyed his relaxed demeanour and sense of humour.  James left us too early and will be missed and always remembered.
