She suddenly passed away at home due to complications of diabetes at the age of 71.
Janice is survived by her family Jeff, Shanine and grand kids Kai & Tayven; as well as Curtis, Heidi and their children Owen and Dean. Janice was born in Ponoka Alberta on August 11,1953. She was the youngest of 5 children, and had 4 brothers, Douglas, Daryl, Dwayne and Colin Sparks.
The family decided to move to Victoria B.C. where Janice graduated from Victoria High School in 1971. One of Janice's fondest high school memories was being awarded the Top Drill Member while being a part of the Victoria Girls Drill Team. Some of Jan's hobbies included horseback riding, camping and fishing as well as gardening, bowling and swimming. She even scuba dived for a few years while she was married. Another one of Jan's favourite things to do was also singing. She joined the Victoria Choral Society when she was younger as well as sung in many church choirs.
After high school, Jan enrolled in a Secretarial Program and later went on to earn a Paralegal Certificate from the Capilano University in Vancouver B.C. She worked for many years as a Paralegal in the Lower Mainland, and when she semi-retired continued her own Paralegal and Private Investigation business for five years. Jan was an active volunteer with Softball BC, and seasonally with the Salvation Army. Jan also enjoyed being a crossing guard for many years at a local elementary school in Surrey B.C. until she suddenly passed away.
Jan was also a huge sports fan and loved watching the Vancouver Canucks play (when they were winning), but I would say her fondest and proudest memories were when she was watching Kai and Tayven play baseball every year as she was a very proud Grandma bragging about their many accomplishments on the field.
Jan will be missed by her friends and family as well as the many people she talked to every week at the school. Jan did not want a formal service, but wanted to reunited with her parents Earl and Dorothy Sparks as well as her brothers and the many other family members resting in the Ponoka Cemetery.
The family will be gathering in Ponoka Alberta in July, 2025 with details still to be finalized.
