She is survived by her son Robert (Beverly) of Langley, BC, and her daughter Barbara Chestnut (Ken Pike) of Parksville, BC; grandchildren Shayne (Chantelle), Ryan, Michelle (Daniel Wittrock), Taylor, and Jessie; 7 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, as well as 3 of her 10 siblings Henry Nordin, Morris Nordin and Irene Bekkering.
Laura was one of 5 students in her graduating class at Buchanan High School in 1946. She is also an alumna of the Saskatoon City Hospital School of Nursing, and graduated in 1950 as a registered nurse. Laura completed a post-graduate surgical residency at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, BC in 1954. She settled in Vancouver and worked as a surgical nurse at Grace Hospital for many years.
Laura married John (Jack) Bennett (1923-2019) in 1957, and they soon started a family. The family established roots in Vancouver, then moved to Coquitlam after purchasing a Trout Farm. About 7 years later the family moved to Aldergrove where they continued their farming endeavours on a smaller scale. On the farm, Laura had a passion for maintaining a flock of sheep. She also loved working with youth as a 4H leader. As years progressed, she joined the Langley Weavers and Spinners’ Guild. Many of her wool creations have made their way into craft fairs and into the homes of family and friends.
She and Jack had since downsized their residence in Aldergrove and established residence in Murrayville. After the passing of her husband, she moved to Avalon Independent living. Laura was enthusiastic to move to Avalon and be involved in the social activities there.
Faith and family were the two most important things in Laura’s life and she was happiest when spending time surrounded by family and friends and sharing stories.
