Merv lived a full and long life. He was born on July 15, 1930, in Nipawin, Saskatchewan. His family all lived on the farm in a log cabin without any services. Eventually, there were six brothers and sisters - Laura, Tom, Alice, Merv, Donalda, and Frank all under the care of their parents Olive and Ralph.
After a time in Winnipeg in his teens, the family moved to Vancouver where Merv married Myrna and had two boys, Mark and Roth. He built a thriving insurance business there before retiring.
His adventurous life with his boys included hiking rim to rim over four days in the Grand Canyon, hiking the Chilkoot Trail in Alaska for five days during his 71st birthday, visiting all seven continents of the world including Antarctica in a period of one year, hiking the continental divide in the Rocky Mountains for seven days, and camel trekking for 4 days in the dunes of the Sahara Desert … to name only a few.
Merv loved to travel and visited dozens of countries around the world including China, Morrocco, Turkey, and Egypt. He often went on cruise ships and spent much time at his place in Arizona.
Merv is predeceased by his Mother (Olive), Father (Ralph), Brother (Tom), Sisters: {Laura (Bob), Alice (Jack), Donalda (Mick), Sister-in-law (Chris)}, & his Grandson (Andrew). He is survived by his sons, Mark (Sharon), Roth (Sophie), his three Grandkids: { Jamie (Helena), Vicki (Don), and Elizabeth}, his three Great-Grandkids: (Olivia, Penelope and Lily), & Brother Frank, along with many other loving extended family members.
Merv died peacefully in his sleep on the morning of May 5th, 2024. He was almost 94. He will be deeply missed.
