Alice Tielens in Meerssen, the Netherlands. Raoul studied medicine in Leiden and
Amsterdam before emigrating to Canada in 1953. He interned in Victoria and practiced
in remote communities in British Columbia before marrying his beloved Elisabeth in
Maastricht, the Netherlands, in 1957. The couple then returned to BC and Raoul set up
a family medical practice in Langley, BC in 1958 where he raised his family, served his
patients until his retirement from medicine at the age of 75, and lived until the final few
months of his life.
Raoul had a love of nature, being outside and being active. He will be remembered for
his beautiful gardens, ski vacations with his family, a wicked tennis forehand top spin,
and bridge games where a well-placed joke was more important than the card played.
Raoul will be sorely missed by his wife Elisabeth, his brother Arthur (Ingrid) in Germany,
his four children: Marguerite (Dan MacIntosh), Peter, Veronica, and Tom (Eun); his
grandchildren: Cameron (McKinley), Anne-Marie, Adrienne (Jathan Rademaker),
Alexzandria, Liam, Gabriel, and Paige; and his great-grandson, Cade.
A Mass will be offered for the Intention of Raoul Tielens at 7:00pm on October 23 at
St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 20680 Fraser Highway, Langley, B.C.
A Memorial Service will be held on October 10, at 1:00pm at Henderson’s Langley Funeral Home, 20786
