He was active in his community running a club for boys, coaching sports teams and serving pancake breakfasts in Burnaby schools. He ran his own small catering business for many years and the last wedding he catered was for his grandson Rich and his bride Cara in 2006. At that time, Dick was 83 and still an excellent cook.
Throughout his retirement, he kept busy visiting the fire hall, travelling with Nettie and he also spent many years taking care of the Capitol Hill Community Hall in Burnaby.
Dick was a collector and his tastes were eclectic. Some of his treasures included antiques barber chairs, juke boxes a player piano and a myriad of other delightful vintage objects.
He leaves this world after a life of 97 years, well lived, well loved and with a bountiful legacy in his family and in his community.
He will be remembered by all of us for his gruff manner, his wit, his sharp sense of humor and his love. His generosity and support to his family over the years are remembered and much appreciated.
Dad, we will remember you. We love you. You will always be in our thoughts along with Mom when we enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Cultus Lake, so generously gifted to all of us, year after year from the both of you.
