Our incredible, beloved Mom, Sharon Louise Vinet (McCallum), born Nov 12, 1942 in Cornwall, Ontario, passed away bravely in our arms, of natural causes, on July 18, 2019 in Langley, BC, at 2:30PM, on a sunny, blue day with bunnies and squirrels scampering around outside her window. Much like an image from childhood she always remembered - for feeling so happy, walking down a country road alone in the sunshine, watching the wheat blowing softly in the breeze.
Up close or long distance, she was comforted to the end by: her favourite songs, her living, loving Children: Jeff (Pat), Leslea (Valentinos), Jill, Katey (Keith), Crystal, Grandkids: Delaney, Brady, Daynan, Kindra, Romeo, Sisters: Leah (Glynn), Ellen (Don), Mary, Brothers: Johnny (Hannah), Mel (Deb), Don, Nieces: Lisa (Rick), Kizzy (Calvin), Corine (Clayton), Sharla (Henrik), Nephews: Jeff, buddy Kevin, Kenny, Brad, their children: Brandon (Laura), Brody, Austin (Serena), Keenan, Alanis, Kaylea, Jayme, Melony, Cahlan, Oliver, Avery, Jack, Molly, their tots: Aleah, Kai, Callie, dear Cousins: Barbara, Bobby, Michael, Mark, Joan, John, Kathy, Karen, Donna, David, dear friends and neighbours through her life: Marion, Jim, Denise, Marilyn, Rosemary, Joe, Kelly, Susan, Krista, Marina, Wendy, Debbie, Lorraine, and of course the people of Rosewood/Marrwood Extended Care: Jules, Kurtis, Virginia, Ron, Bernie, staff: Lourdes, Marilou, Carrie Murphy, Sylvia and notably Irish angel Colleen at the end. She loved you all.
Comforting to know that she is now with her cherished son Rick who passed away in November 1999, brothers/buddies: Garth and Morley (Sharon), loving parents Don and Louise McCallum, fun loving Aggie and Greg MacDonald, her hero Grandma Dora, beloved Bernie, Richard, Mack, Don, many dear cats, film idols and all the heroes and saints she could find. She will be loving this.
She was a favourite at Marrwood for her kindness, strength, independence. Her last words spoken were gentle and polite: I love you too, Good Morning, Thank-you, and a drawn out “Wellll…” when asked how she was feeling the day before she died. A born scholar, empath comedienne, she might have said (so, we said it to her) “…’tis a far, far better rest I go to, than I have ever known” (Tale of Two Cities) or “Sorry, it will have to wait till the 12th”. The 12th of never would’ve suited us better Mom. It was a hard life you survived and you were happiest with the simple things like conversation, phone calls, visits from family, classic movies, music, learning, solving, thrift shops, bingo!
Sharon will be cremated with some ashes joining Rick’s in the River Shannon in Ireland. Having said no to a funeral/service, she prefers an Irish Wake instead, which will happen when we next reunite, and have recovered from the most heart wrenching time we’ve ever known. Condolences may be sent to: hendersonslangleyfunerals.com (click “Find an Obituary” then type in Sharon Vinet).
She always closed with “Adios Amigo!” (code for “I love you” she said) so Adios Amigo Mom!
