Sylvia was born July 8, 1936, in Agassiz, BC, the daughter of Lillian and Ferdinand Ponto.
Sylvia was a lifetime member of Kinettes. She was also very active volunteering for various community organizations, including the Langley Field Naturalists, Relay for Life, the Langley Heritage Society, the Christmas Bureau and Canadian Blood Services (to name a few). In 2017 the Township of Langley awarded her the Volunteer of the Year Award of Merit for her many contributions.
One of her proudest moments was when she earned the prestigious Order of the Red Cross Canada in 1998 for her many years as a volunteer with the Canadian Blood Services. She ended up volunteering for Blood Services for over 50 years. Sylvia was an avid traveler, having visited numerous countries around the world. She also loved puttering around in her garden tending to her plants and flowers. Sylvia was a devoted Mother and lived a long, fulfilling life. The memories of Mom are innumerable but include simple pleasures such as sharing a home cooked meal and a glass of wine or coffee together. Remaining to cherish Sylvia’s memories are her children, Scott and Shirley, brother Glenn, stepdaughter Penny, grandchildren Andrew, Chris, Erik and Sabrina, brother-in-law Bob, nephew Lance and numerous other nieces and nephews. Sylvia was predeceased by her husband Ernest Leslie and sister Yvonne. Memorial donations in Sylvia’s memory may be directed to Critter Care Wildlife Society in Langley.
A Memorial will be held May 23, 2025 at 10:00am with a Reception to follow at Henderson’s Langley Funeral Home. Sylvia was a gentle but feisty lady right to the end. We would like to thank the caregivers at Burnaby General Hospital for their kindness and compassion.
