Born in Ohio on April 5th, 1940, Alan moved to Michigan with his mother and grew up playing golf, watching the Spartans, Tigers, and Lions, and attending games to root for his favorite teams (or curse their losses). Alan was a long-time employee of Ingham Regional Medical Hospital as their Lab Manager and was also a former owner of the Green Door Tavern. He made many friends and regular patrons. Those who have had the pleasure of knowing him, regarded him as a warm man who lit up every room with his smile, charm
and a joke or two. Alan had a great sense of humor and naturally befriended everyone he met. Alan is preceded in death by his mother, Ivon Barrett (nee Davis), his father Theodore Arnold Barrett, and sister, Nancy Collins. He is survived by his children: Valerie McGuirt, Brian (Tina), Pam Gauna (Eddie), Jessica Hill (Mike), Sharon Sierawski (nee Hellmann), Michael Hellmann, Janet Hodges (Daniel), 14 grand-children,
7 great-grand children, and the love of his life, Barbara Barrett (nee Sagan). The wonderful memories of all of the Spartan basketball games, dips in the pool, road trips, vacations to Florida, rounds of golf and spins of the slot machine at the casino will always bring a smile to our faces and Alan will forever be in our hearts.
