Haslett, formerly of Lansing

Born October 3, 1921 and went to be with his Lord on October 27, 2012. He retired as the Chief Accountant of the Lansing sectional center of the United States Postal Service in 1972. He graduated from Lansing Central High School in 1939 and served in the US Army during World War II in India. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years: Eleanor (Howison), parents: Edwin and Charlotte Finch, brothers: Lawrence, Charles and Paul Finch. He is survived by sisters: Martha Schairer (Donald) and Lois Thompson and Sons: James (Phylliss) and Gregory also grandchildren: Tamara Nicholson (Frank), James II, Elijah (Emily) and Seth and great grandson Julian Nicholson. Al was a lifelong member of Central Free Methodist Church in Lansing and served as treasurer for many years. He enjoyed fast pitch softball, coaching and pitching for the church team and he was an avid Tiger fan since the 1920’s. He was a self-taught carpenter, builder, plumber and electrician, remodeling his homes over the years with a great attention to detail. His heart was for his family and his church. His serious demeanor was a front masking a sense of humor that was always looking for a place to spring forth. He will be missed here by those who remain, but is with his family that proceeded to his heavenly home, where moth and rust do not corrupt and Dad won’t have to make the repairs. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 2, 2012 at Central Free Methodist Church, 828 N. Washington Ave., Lansing. The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 1, 2012 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM and 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, MI and one hour prior to the service at the church.
