May 4, 1927 – April 22, 2021
On Thursday, April 22, 2021, Ann Therese Manning, passed away at the tender age of 93. Ann was born to the parents of William and Mary (Dalton) Manning in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She spent the majority of her life in Lansing and graduated from The Resurrection School.
Ann went to Nazareth College in Kalamazoo. After graduation, she taught stenography and English at a nursing school in Kankakee, Illinois. She returned to Lansing to earn her Master’s Degree from MSU and went on to teach at the Michigan School for the Blind. She greatly enjoyed her 25 plus years there and made many long-term friends with students and teachers alike. She took great pride in being an educator to all her students including Stevie Wonder. The family would like to acknowledge their appreciation for fellow teacher John Bullock who was a dedicated lifelong friend.
Ann was a devout Catholic and attended both St. Gerard and Resurrection Parishes in Lansing. Faith along with her love of family were the pillars of her life. She was very selfless and always put other’s needs above her own. She never lost her quick wit and sense of humor and made people laugh until the very last days of her life.
Ann particularly enjoyed spending time with special cousin Tom Hoban, who faithfully for 9 years took her to her favorite restaurant once a week. Conversations often involved her loving family and stories of her upbringing. It is comforting to know she will be reunited with her parents and three siblings, which were the focal point of her life.
Ann is preceded in death by her parents William and Mary Manning; sisters Mary Catherine and Frances Clare; brother William Gerard.
