Ardath L. DiOrio

Was born on February 2, 1929 in Austin, Minnesota and passed away at the age of 85, Saturday December 5th, 2014 at her home, Burcham Hills, East Lansing, Michigan.

Ardie was predeceased by her parents Bert and Alma Haga, her husband, Daniel DiOrio, brother; Raymond Haga and sisters; Thelma (Joe) Boshoff, Clarice (John) Enright, Dallas (Hub) Galer and Donna (Darwin) Worden

She loved to laugh, was an exceptional storyteller, and enjoyed telling a joke or two. She and her husband Dan had an amazing garden and each summer they sold blueberries.

She came to Lansing at a young age and lived with her sister Thelma and her family following the death of her mother. They lived in Sault Ste Marie for a time then moved back to Lansing where she worked at the Eat Shop, a family owned restaurant.

Ardie married Daniel DiOrio, a WWII veteran, in 1949 in Angola, Indiana and lived in Lansing. There she worked at Oldsmobile for a number of years. When they built the family home in Dewitt she worked at Shoprite. Her favorite pastimes were playing golf, ballroom dancing, gardening, and working on her genealogy. Her two greatest friends were Miriam and Bette Barberio.

She is survived by her son Daniel DiOrio Jr. Her brother: Gale (Carol) Haga. Her grandchildren: Mary (Shawn) Kinser, their two children James and Greta, Nick (Adel) DiOrio and their two children Michael and Justin.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews and their families: Susan Galer, David (Suzanne) Galer, Joan (Silvio) McCallister-LaMarra , Scott (Dena) Galer, Douglas Galer, Jeff Worden, Mark (Patricia)Worden, Beth Worden, KimWorden, Darry Worden, Patsy Jo Williams, Karen Sue Haga, Debra Lynn (Bruce) Hebler, Randy Haga, Alma (Art) Turk, Raymond (Linda) Enright, Peggy Goins, Cindy (Rob) Koleski, Peter (Ellen) Boshoff, Julie (Bill) Boettcher, Lisa Jones, Amy (Doug Barcy) Fossum, Jill (Mitchell) DeYoung, Sara (Scott) Murray. She will be greatly missed. The Lord called her home and for that we rejoice.

A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 pm at the St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, 955 Alton Road, East Lansing, Michigan. The family will receive friends at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 East Michigan Avenue, Lansing on Monday from 5-8 pm and Tuesday at the church one hour prior to the service.
