In the early 1970s, Beatrice moved to Lansing, Michigan, where she would make her home. In 1977, she married the love of her life, Ray, beginning a devoted partnership filled with love, laughter, and shared memories.
Beatrice enjoyed playing bingo and visiting casinos, passions that became more than hobbies—she even worked off and on at local bingo halls, delighting in the social connection and fun they brought. When at home, she could often be found relaxing and enjoying her favorite soap operas.
A woman of deep compassion, Beatrice gave generously of her time through volunteer work with Tri County MDI, Special Olympics, and the Women’s Safety Council, always eager to help and support others in meaningful ways.
Beatrice was also an exceptional cook, known especially for her famous potato salad and pumpkin pie, dishes that brought people together and will forever be tied to cherished family gatherings and fond memories.
Beatrice is survived by her husband of 48 years Raymond Cockrell; children: Eddie (Melissa) Lopez, Mark Lopez, Nicole Lopez and Amanda (Ray) Herring; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; five siblings; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Harriet Grose; and five siblings.
A visitation for Beatrice will be held Thursday, January 29, 2026, from 9:30am – 11:30am at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Ave. Lansing, MI 48912. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
