Age 89, formerly of Lansing, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2011. He was born on March 8, 1922 in Michelson, MI. Charles was a W.W. II Army Veteran, serving in both the European and Pacific Theatres. He went on to graduate from Lansing Business College. He retired from the State of Michigan, Department of Transportation after 32 years of service. After retirement Charles volunteered at Ingham Regional Medical Center for 16 years and also went to Lansing Community College and became a certified clown. He was a member of the American Legion Post #183 for 60 years where he was Past Commander and also served as the Chaplin for 15 years. He was a member of Mayflower Congregational Church for many years. Charles was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Lucille; and son-in-law, Charles Lee. Surviving are: sons, Robert (Vickie) Phinney of Alabaster, AL and Dale (Tammy) Phinney of Grand Ledge, MI; daughters, Sheron Lee of Tustin, MI, Lois (Melvin) Caldwell of Shepherd, TX and Mary (Gary) Moomey of Cadillac, MI; 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 12 Noon on Friday, June 24, at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, in Marion, MI at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and 2 hours prior to the service on Friday.
