Charles James Thompson Jr., affectionately known as “Boot” or “Unc Boot,” was born on December 15, 1955, in Lansing, Michigan, to the late Charlie James Thompson, a proud military veteran, and Izealia Mae (Williams) Thompson, an outstanding nurse. He was the second oldest of seven children and gained his heavenly wings on September 29, 2025, at 2:25 p.m.
Charles was an intelligent, hardworking, and inventive man — truly a pioneer of his time. He dedicated more than 30 years of service to General Motors, where he earned respect as both an employee and a leader until his well-earned retirement. Prior to his long and successful career at GM, Charles excelled as a car salesman, known for his sharp wit and innovative approach to sales.
A true outdoorsman at heart, Charles loved fishing, hunting, and spending time in nature. No matter the weather, he was always prepared — earning the nickname “MacGyver” for his ability to fix just about anything, often with nothing more than duct tape. His creativity, resourcefulness, and strength were unmatched.
Charles was more than a skilled craftsman and provider — he was a man of bold spirit, compassion, and humor. He could tell the best stories and was famous among family and friends for his legendary fried fish. Many would visit just to enjoy his cooking and laughter — he truly brought people together. His love for good food and family gatherings continues to inspire his grandson’s passion for cooking today.
Charles “Boot Banacca” Thompson leaves behind two loving children, KeJuan Thompson Sr. and Shadia Thompson, their mother Sharon Edwards, and four cherished grandchildren: KeJuan Thompson Jr., Aniyah Thompson, Aubrey Thompson, and Kelaya Thompson.
He is also survived by his sisters Lorraine Williams, Lisa Thompson Phifer, and Julia Thompson of Lansing, MI, and his brothers Raymond Thompson of Lansing, MI, and Nathan Thompson of Mt. Pleasant, MI, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles, aunts, and close friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
Charles was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Charlie James Thompson Sr. and Izealia Mae Thompson, and his dear sister, Gwendolyn Dupard.
May Heaven embrace him with grace, peace, and everlasting rest.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are KeJuan Thompson Jr., Nathan Thompson Jr., Kevontrez Thompson, Tae Thompson, Kal Carter, Jay Phifer, and honorary pallbearers, Raymond Thompson, Nathan Gentry, Naki Irving, and Harvey Edwards Jr.
