Cherie Lynn Vanvalkenburgh

She is survived by her daughter, Amy Tolan Riley, and her husband, Mike Riley; her son, Bret Tolan, and his fiance, Becky Amstutz; and her beloved grandchildren, Elise Tolan (21), Aiden Clark (18), Sadie Tolan (15), Ian Riley (10), Audrey Tolan (7), and Josephine Tolan (5). She is also survived by her sisters, Debra Shawa and Brenda Trew, and her dear uncle, Donald Ohler, and his wife, Sindy.

Cherie will be fondly remembered for her love of classic rock, golf, beachgoing, board/card games, and her fun, sharp sense of humor. Her proudest achievements were raising her twins largely as a single mother and maintaining over 20 years of sobriety—milestones that reflected her strength, resilience, and determination.

In her later years, Cherie found tremendous joy in watching her grandchildren grow. She was a deeply loving and generous grandmother who cherished every moment spent with them and took great pride in their lives. Her warmth, laughter, and love will live on through her family.

In accordance with her wishes, Cherie will be cremated. A memorial and celebration of life will be planned for this summer—her favorite season—when family and friends will gather to honor her memory.

Cherie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
