

Age 72, passed away Sunday October 25, 2009 in Lansing, MI. He was born in Imlay City, MI on February 15, 1937. Lee graduated from high school in Marlette, MI. He earned his BS degree from Louisiana State University and both his MS and PhD degrees in Education from MSU. In his 40-year career, he taught high school at several Michigan schools including Lapeer and Waverly. He also taught and developed programs for alternative high school and adult education programs. He retired in 1999. Lee cared deeply about his students and colleagues. He often said that he "taught kids" not subjects. He believed that students couldn't learn unless their basic needs were met. Lee loved to learn and had many interests including golf, cooking, collecting pocketknives, photography, and jazz. He was committed to his family, whom he loved deeply. Lee is preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Eleanor (Leader) Amundsen. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara (Loder) Amundsen; children Marti (Phil) Hejl of Charlotte NC, Keenan (Barb) Amundsen of Arlington, VA; grandchildren Hunter, Brooks, Graehme, and Griffin Hejl, Garrett and Madelyn Amundsen; brother Milburn (Mary) and nephew Ted Amundsen of Okemos. Memorial Services will be held Thursday, 2:00 P.M. at Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw, Lansing with visitation from 1:00-2:00.
