It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Eugene Hendricks, known to many as Dave, who departed this world on November 14th, 2023.

Born on May 9th, 1940, Indianapolis, Indiana, Dave's life was a testament to dedication, service, and a deep love for family and the state of Florida.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, William Blaine Hendricks and Velicia Pearl Ashley, and his daughter, Sharon Smith. He is survived by his loving children, Denys Draper and Toni Crane, and his cherished grandchildren, Dakota Crane, Christopher Watson, and Bryan Steavens. Dave's devotion to his family was unwavering, and the impact of his love will continue to resonate through generations.

In addition to being a loving family man, Dave was a proud and dedicated public servant. David A. Hendricks embarked on a distinguished career with the Indianapolis Fire Department, a calling that spoke to his sense of duty and commitment to the well-being of his community. On August 10th, 1966, he was appointed to the department, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey.

Dave's service to the Indianapolis Fire Department reflected his resilience and passion for helping others. He commenced his career on Engine 09 B shift and later found his home at Truck 18 B shift on December 13th, 1967. His dedication led him through various roles and assignments, from Truck 13 B shift to Chauffeur at Squirt 13 B shift on January 1st, 1970.

Throughout his career, Dave continued to demonstrate his versatility and commitment, serving in roles such as driving Engine 05 C shift, Truck 32 C shift, Truck 19 A shift, Truck 14 A shift, and Engine 04 A shift. His final assignment, driving Truck 29 C shift, commenced on December 14th, 1982, culminating in a well-deserved retirement on July 3rd, 1985.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dave found solace and joy in the picturesque landscapes of Florida. His love for the state, coupled with a passion for golfing and fishing for crappie on Lake Okeechobee, showcased a man who embraced life's simple pleasures and found fulfillment in the company of nature.

As we bid farewell to Dave, let us remember him not only for his professional achievements but for the love, warmth, and dedication he brought to every aspect of his life.
