David Henry Venzke

David Henry Venzke, affectionately known as Papa, passed away on September 8, 2024, in Lansing, Michigan, at the age of 84. Born on August 5, 1940, in Lansing, David was a lifelong resident and the pillar of his family.

David graduated from East Lansing High School before continuing his education at Michigan State University and completing his machinist apprenticeship and training with the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training. He dedicated 30 years of his career to General Motors as a machinist before retiring in 1998. Post-retirement, David found joy in running "Papa's Daycare" for his grandchildren and continued to work as a builder.

He was a lifelong member of the United Auto Workers, the Lansing Model Railroad Club, and the NMRA NCR Division 5 - The Capital Division, where he shared his passion for model railroading. David's determination, strength, and diverse skills were evident in every aspect of his life, from professional endeavors to personal hobbies.

David is survived by his children, David Robert (Jamie) Venzke, Deanna Venzke (Kevin) Ells, Dawn Marie (Keith) Spillane, and Daniel Patrick (DeAnna) Venzke; grandchildren Robert, Bethany, Garrett, Savanna, Hailey, Emma, Gavin, and Cade; and his brother Carl (Coca) Venzke.

He was preceded in death by his brother Paul (Judy) Venzke, former wife Diane Venzke, and his parents Pauline Eliza (Kline) and Henry Carl Venzke.

A committal service will be held at Deepdale Memorial Gardens on Monday, September 23, 2024, at 12:00pm. A Celebration of Life Open House is to follow.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lansing Model Railroad Club, P.O. Box 1305, East Lansing, MI 48826-1305, in memory of David. His legacy will live on through his family, his contributions to the community, and the joy he brought to all who knew him.
