David Jay Wicks, born May 27, 1930, went to be with the Lord, surrounded by his children, July 17, 2016. He is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Joyce Evelyn (Root) Wicks; son, Roger David Wicks; his parents, William Francis Wicks and Florence Mable Wicks; his brother, William Wicks; and his sister, Helen Huffman.
Dave retired from the City of East Lansing in 1987 after 35 years of service. If you knew Dave you knew he was one of a kind, and you surely loved him and his company. You could always count on a story from the good old days, and he’d no doubt put a smile on your face. He liked to be silly. He always had an old country song in his head, and he never hesitated to pick up the guitar and sing it to you, or with you. He loved to fish and be outside enjoying the warm, fresh air, and he was always happy with a good cup of coffee and an old western. “Yup, by golly!”
And more than anything, he loved his family. He is survived by his children, Bill (Sadie) Wicks, David (Cheri) Wicks, Mary (Brian) Little, and Lori (Greg) Keller; sister Alleen Root; 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren; and his best buddy, Lonnie.
A memorial service in honor of Dave will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 25, 2016, at Mount Hope Church in the Garden Prayer Chapel (south entrance) – 202 South Creyts Rd. Lansing, MI 48917. Immediately following, a reception will be held at the Delta Township Community Center – 7550 West Willow Hwy. Lansing, MI 48917. For those wishing, contributions in memory of Dave may be directed to the American Cancer Society, 1755 Abbey Rd, East Lansing, MI 48823. The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Lansing Chapel.
