Dillard Legier Garrison

Dillard Legier Garrison, age 97 a lifelong resident of Lansing, MI passed away on Monday, February 1, 2021. He was born on March 22, 1923 in Carmi, IL the son of Roscoe C. and Agnes T. (Thomas) Garrison.

Dillard served his country in the U.S. Army /Medic Corp from 1943-1946 as a medic in France during World War II. He supported his large family as an accountant for Michigan National Bank for over 35 years. Dillard married Martha “Peg” McNerney and they raised a family of 8 children in a two story house with only one bathroom. Dillard was a longtime volunteer with Church of the Resurrection, Sparrow Hospital, Lansing City Hall, Meals on Wheels and helped at many High School sporting events. The most important part of his life was his family but he did love a good game of cards. The love and respect his children and grandchildren have given in his final days on earth has been a tribute to his role as an exemplary and loving father and grandfather. Dillard had a gift of meeting someone once and remembering them for a lifetime.

He is survived by his children, Merle (Thomas) Gallagher, Margaret Terwilliger, Melinda (Judy) Garrison, Ellen Troub, John (Mary) Garrison, Gregory Garrison, Steven (Yvonne) Garrison; 19 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren. Dillard is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 61 years, Martha “Peg” Garrison, his daughter, Mary Korinek and grandson Ryan Garrison.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 8, 2021 at the Church of the Resurrection, Lansing, MI which will also be live streamed on the church’s YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNJZpONsKRMsPRktoGjz3vA for those unable to attend. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the Mass from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Church. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Lansing, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Church of the Resurrection or Sparrow Hospital in Dillard’s honor.
