Our loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather went to be with his Lord, June 18, 2007 at the age of 84. Don was born July 2, 1922 in Greely, Colorado, grew up in Steamboat Springs, Colorado and was the son of Andrew and Elizabeth (Allen) Squire. He served with the United States Army during WWII in the Phillipines as a Staff Sargeant and received a Purple Heart. Don worked 15 years for Howard Sober and then worked at Motor Wheel for 22 years as a Security Guard. He has been a member of Pilgrim Congregational Church for 50 years and was a life member of the Morley S. Oates V.F.W. Post 701. Don enjoyed skiing and poker playing but his real interest was in cars. Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Dorothea C. (David) Squire; daughters, Donna (James) Messmer of Colorado, Martha Mauer of Tennessee, Julie (Kurt) Hopfner of East Pointe, Michigan; son, James Squire; stepchildren, Diane R. Macchi, Jane A. Brauer, Gail M. Cardy, Jo-Ellen (Lloyd) Meehleder, Mary E. Cardy, William T. Cardy, John P. Grenier all of Lansing, David B. Cardy of Massachusetts; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sister, Iva DeLong of Oregon; several nieces and nephews; special niece, Shirley Hanen. A special thank you to Tendercare West for their excellent care of Don during his illness. Memorial Services will be 11:00AM Friday, July 6, 2007 at Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ, 125 E. Pennsylvania Avenue, Lansing 48912 with Rev. Peter N. Robinson officiating.
