

Douglas L. Buckner (age 89) died Thursday, December 15, 2022 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was surrounded by family. Doug was born May 17, 1933 in Belding, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Everett and Pearl (Cory) Buckner. Doug spent his childhood years in Belding, MI, a short time in Colorado before moving to Lansing where he graduated from Eastern High School in 1952. Doug was drafted by the United States Army in 1953 serving 4 years. After serving in the military he worked for Michigan Bell as a lineman and service technician for over 30 years when he retired at the age of 55. Doug was committed to caring for his wife, Carolyn. They enjoyed many years of camping at School Section Lake establishing long term friendships. He continued to travel and attend family camping trips until he was 87 yrs old. Doug was an avid hunter for over 75 years teaching all he knew about deer hunting to his sons and grandsons. He also enjoyed golfing, going to flea markets, and is known for his sense of humor.
Doug is survived by his sons and their spouse: Michael (Debra) Buckner, Gary Buckner, Larry (Carol) Buckner, Craig (Carla) Buckner, Grandchildren Jennifer (Charlie) Rice, Bree (Jason) Berghuis, Jason (Jamie) Buckner, Heather (Michael) Boles, Nicole (Cory) Morris, Sasha (Jeff) Robertson, Josh (Lindsey) Buckner, Chelsie Shivley, Kasey (Beth) Buckner Brager, Amanda (Jorge Vasquez) Buckner, Cody (Angela) Shivley, Nicole (Ray) Pagala, Evan Buckner, Brandon (Melanie) Buckner; 29 great-grandchildren, and fiancé Arlene McMillan of 13 years. The family is grateful for the love and care she gave for Doug.
Proceeded in death are his parents, his loving wife, Carolyn of 47 years, and his daughter-in-law Cathy Buckner.
Family and friends are invited to Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes 900 E. Michigan, Lansing) for visitation between 5:30 pm and 8:00 pm on Wednesday, December 21st. Visitation on Thursday, December 22nd, from 10:00 - 11:00 with the funeral service starting at 11:00 am.
Doug's family requests memorial donations be made to the Arthritis Foundation or US Department of Veterans Affairs.
