Doyle Helgo Jessen, 90, passed away Saturday Sept. 15, 2012 in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Whiteland and formerly of Michigan and Florida. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in WWII. Doyle attended Michigan State University and graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mortuary science. He was a licensed funeral director for 63 years. He owned and operated Jessen Funeral Home, first in Hillsdale and then in Lansing. He enjoyed boating, fishing and playing bridge. He was a member at the Lansing Country Club and Bretton Woods Lion's Club. He took great pleasure entertaining family and friends at his Naples, FL, and Torch Lake homes. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Survivors include three children, C. John (Suellen) Jessen, Lorna J. Fenner and Jill R. (Rick) Oppenlander, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents N. Christian and Lena (Rasmussen) Jessen, wife, Gwendolyn A. (Gorsline) Jessen and four brothers, Haven, Clarence, Robert and Arnold Jessen. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday September 21, 2012 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 900 East Michigan Ave., Lansing Chapel, with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Summit Cemetery in Williamston, Michigan. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Indy Honor Flight at 9093 S. State Rd. 39, Mooresville, Indiana 46158.
