A celebration of epic proportion took place in Heaven on Christmas Eve as "Downtown Ed Brown" made his way through those Pearly Gates, strutting his stuff like George Jefferson after moving on up to the East Side!
There to welcome him home with open arms was his beloved mother; Victoria, doting brothers; Genaro, Jr "Gena", Juan "The Real McCoy", Luz "Tito", Carlos "Lalo", adoring sisters; Maria, Angelita “Ang”, very patient sister-in-law; Sylvia “Sylv” Holguin, brother-in-law; Gabriel "Cool Gabe" Centeno, and a whole lotta other relatives.
Eduardo was the youngest of twelve children born to Genaro, Sr and Victoria Holguin on June 26. He exemplified "youngest child" syndrome; he threw fits if his shoes weren't right where he left them, or when he couldn’t watch the Tigers, Cowboys, or Spartans play. He was also prone to scream "F-it!" and walk out of the room angrily when denied pop or a Snickers bar. He loved "joshing" with his family and friends and often lovingly referred to them as "fish-eyed fools" or "suckas”.
Wayo truly embodied the "Holguin Spirit"; he was strong-willed, bull-headed, tenacious, and a fighter. A victim of a hit and run accident at 12 years old left him with physical and mental impairments. After being in a coma for several months, doctors told his family that he would be a vegetable for the rest of his short life, and encouraged them to take him off life support. Luckily for him, we Holguin's have a deep faith in our Lord, are horrible listeners, and our genetic make-up consists of: 78% super human, 17% overly-confident in our abilities, and 5% f-you attitude. He may not have done it gracefully, but he was able to walk, talk, think, argue, and feed himself for over 40+ years. He had no "beef" with anyone (other than Chuck from Beekman Center!) and never felt sorry for himself, other than when he couldn’t find his shoes or was denied pop or a Snickers bar.
Eddie was fond of shoes, pop, Snickers, rooting for the Tigers, Cowboys, and Spartans, and music from the 70s. He especially enjoyed daily/weekend visits with his best friends, Bill and Sue, being surrounded by his family and friends, and entertaining them all with his rendition of “The Rhinestone Cowboy”, of which he knew every word.
Wayito is survived by his sister, Petra Centeno, brothers, Manuel, Alfonso (Diane), sisters-in-law, Guadalupe Holguin and Sarah Young, his "brotha from another motha" and his Earthly Guardian Angel, Bill and Sue Robertson, numerous nieces and nephews, and all his friends at Schavey AFC.
Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Ledge, MI on Friday, December 28th at 11am. Visitors are encouraged to wear Tigers, Cowboys, or MSU gear and their favorite shoes. Luncheon to follow.
Ed Dawg hated goodbyes, but this isn't a goodbye since our Savior promises that we'll be reunited in Heaven. This is more as Eddie used to say a, "See you later, alligator!"
