Edyth Lois Wood (McQuady) passed away peacefully on August 6, 2024 at the age of 91. Edyth was born on November 9, 1932 in Martwick, KY. Her family soon moved to Hazel Park, MI where she met her future husband, Ray Wood. The high school sweethearts were married in 1951 and recently celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary.
Edyth spent 27 years working as a secretary for Fitzgerald Public Schools in Warren, MI before retiring and moving to Marysville. There she became very involved in the Marysville United Methodist Church including playing in the bell choir. She also spent many years as a volunteer at the River District hospital. In 2000 they moved to Great Lakes Christian Homes in Holt and last year they moved to Provision Living in East Lansing.
She has always enjoyed reading, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, knitting, and crochet. In her 70s she took up watercolor painting, even winning some blue ribbons for her efforts. She will be remembered for being caring, thoughtful, smart, and fiercely independent.
Edyth is survived by her husband Ray Wood, daughter Laura (Chuck) Finnie, son Larry (Jodie) Wood, grandchildren Matthew, Patrick, Kevin, and Jessica. She was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren.
In her lifelong spirit of promoting education, Edyth chose to donate her body to the MSU College of Medicine to aid in the education of future physicians and health care professionals. Edyth has requested that there be no formal service or flowers, but the family does have one request. Please take a moment to consider one of her favorite sayings, which she would tell us when we were leaving after nearly every visit: “take care of each other.”
May she rest in peace.
