Electra Gehopolos Bailey, 90, went to be with her Lord on February 25, 2017. She was born on March 7, 1926, to Greek immigrants, Gus and Erie Gehopolos, in Manistee, MI. Electra grew up in the restaurant business as her parents owned The Boston Café in Manistee. She graduated from Manistee High School in 1943. She moved to Chicago in 1949 and began a career with an advertising agency. She moved back to Manistee in 1956 and ran the restaurant after her father's death. She met David Bailey in 1957, and they married in 1962. Electra was a hardworking woman and had a quintessential gift for sales. Her last job was working with a dental company. She was Woman of the Year in 1992 for the Seven Islands Charter Chapter of the American Business Women's Association. She loved to paint and was a very gifted artist. Electra was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and the Grand Ledge Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Zach Gehopolos and Lewis Gehopolos; and husband, David Bailey. She is survived by her daughter, Amelia (Ronald) Chapko; 2 grandchildren, Ryan and Erin Chapko; sisters-in-law, Sue Ann (John) Makinen, and Bernadine Gehopolos; nieces, Kathy Pickwick, Monica Anderson, and Bethesda Kloet; and many other nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 7000 W. Saginaw Hwy, Lansing with Pastor Roger K. Straub officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 West Saginaw Street, Lansing, and 10-11 AM at on Wednesday at the church. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Manistee, MI. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Electra's memory may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. The family is being served by Tiffany Funeral Home.
