

Francesca Antonia DeCera Verderese passed away peacefully on February 1, 2014. She was born on January 16, 1928 in Genose, Italy and traveled to the United States on the steamship Conte Di Savoia arriving at the Port of New York on April 23, 1936. She became a United States citizen on March 27, 1952.
Surviving are her children Adele (Brian) Dodge, Dominic (Vickie) Verderese and Rosanne Lee; grandchildren Jeremy (Karen) Johnson, Stephanie Howland, Dominic Barnes, Gina (Adam) Bryner, Teya (Meng) Yu, Brad (Amy) Sporman, Eric (Joelle) Sporman, and Matt (Brooke) Sporman; great grandchildren Calvin Johnson, Christopher Bryner, Mia Bryner, Hudson Yu, Brandon, Ashleigh, Kyle, Ben, Hailey and Slade Sporman.
She is preceded in death by her parents Peter and Rose DeCera and her husband Dominick Verderese.
Fran owned and operated Fran's Hairstyling for many years and was a Sparrow Hospital volunteer for four decades.
She was an accomplished bridge player and never turned down a trip to the casino. She spent many happy hours creating beautiful beaded pictures and knitting afghans, hats and scarves for her family and friends. Fran was the original "Marie Romano" when it came to cooking. Not only did she cook for her family but anyone and everyone who entered her home whether or not they had just eaten.
Her greatest happiness in life were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. All had their own special title for her: Grams, Grammy, GiGi, MiMi and Granny Franny.
Fran's family will celebrate her life at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, February 5, at St. Gerard Church, 4437 W. Willow, Lansing with Fr. Paul Erickson presiding. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be at Tiffany Funeral Home from 2-4, 6-8 P.M Tuesday with a rosary at 7:30 P.M. Viewing will be from 12:30 to 1:30 P.M. Wednesday at church.
