Helen Cotner Hughes

Holt, MI

Helen, the last of six daughters of Herbert and Georgia Williams of Seymour, MO, was born May 20, 1923. She died December 22, 2012 at the age of 89. Helen was an insurance agent, and agency owner in Columbus, OH, before living in Lakeland, FL 27 years. Helen, moving with Tom to Holt in 2004, joined her daughter’s home in 2007. She was a member of Olivet Baptist Church.

Helen was preceded in death by two husbands; J Paul Cotner, Jr. and Thomas G. Hughes. She was greatly loved and is survived by three daughters: Virginia (Raymond) Hopper of Strafford, MO; Rebecca Berry (Donald) Jost of Holt, MI, and step-daughter Gailen (Corky) Ramm of Pryor, OK; niece Angie Young of Olathe, KS, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Lori Phillips and Lucinda Northcutt of Strafford, MO, Nathaniel Jost of East Lansing, MI, and Aaron Jost of Washington, D.C.

Helen’s family appreciates the special love of Olivet Baptist Church and University United Methodist Church members and the staff of Hospice Advantage and Prestige Way. Warmly appreciated are Helen’s special friends Deanna Cook, Marilyn Irvine, Audrey Durkin and Connie Gamage.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 19, 12:00 noon, at Olivet Baptist Church, 5455 Willoughby Road, Lansing, with Pastor Edgar L. Owens officiating. The family will receive friends at the church Friday, January 18, 6-8 p.m., and Saturday beginning at 10:45 a.m. Donations in memory of Helen may be made to Olivet Baptist Church or Hospice Advantage, 401 Center Ave., Ste.
