Helen Marie Lyons

Helen Marie Lyons (Youngs) was born in Lansing, Michigan on July 21st, 1944, to her parents Dorothy Youngs (Awrey) and Earnest Youngs. Helen married her loving husband, James Lyons in 1978. Helen and James joined their families, having three children each, to make a family of eight. Helen thrived in her role as their mother and wife.

Helen led a life of service to others. Nurturing and caring for her family, friends, and anyone who was in need. In her younger years, Helen was a single mother to her three daughters, while she worked and attended college courses. In 1977, Helen began what would become 25 years of service as a Data Code Operator with the Michigan State Police. Helen was happy to retire and become a housewife, and to spend more time with her family. Helen cherished her friends and family, and would do anything to be there for them. This was especially true in her favorite role, being “Granny” or “Grandma” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was always available to lend a listening ear, give a ride, make a meal, bake a pie, or make her famous Christmas cookies. Her legacy will live on through the kindness, love, and generosity she guided her family with.

Helen was steadfast in her faith. Her family finds peace in knowing she is home with the Lord, and some of her most beloved family. Helen is preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Youngs (Awrey) her father, Earnest Youngs, her sister RoseAnn Jones (Youngs), her granddaughter, Danielle Dexter, and her many fur-babies.

Helen is survived by her husband of 47 years, James Lyons Sr.; her daughters, Kimberly Thompson, Holly Dexter (Donald), and Kelly Mitchell; her step-children, James Lyons Jr. (Holly), Jeffery Lyons (Judy), and Julie Cook (Keith); her grandchildren, Ashley, Taylor (Tommy), Brandi (Austin), Jacob, Jaigen, Jessica (Johnny), Jena, Lyndsay, Jarred, and Drew; her siblings, Sharon Mohre, Kenneth Youngs, and Keith Youngs (Kris). Helen is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.

A service in honor of Helen Marie Lyons will be held on Saturday, December 27th, 2025 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 900 E Michigan Ave, Lansing, MI 48912 with visitation from 10:00-11:00AM, service at 11:00AM, Pastor Dutch of Mason Community Church officiating. A procession to her final resting place will follow to Delta Center Cemetery in Lansing, MI, 48917.

A reception luncheon will be held following the services at Restoration Life Church. 5455 Willoughby Rd. Lansing, MI 48911.
