

Jean was born at home on the wind-swept plains of North Dakota on March 26, 1919. She grew up surrounded by loving friends and family in the farm town of Grafton. Jean attended Valley City State Teacher’s College, the University of North Dakota, and Wayne State University. She taught in one- room schools in North Dakota before moving on to Oak Harbor, WA, suburban Los Angeles, and Lincoln Park, MI, before finally settling in Mt. Clemens, MI. The majority of her career was spent at Mt. Clemens High School teaching world history and English. Jean married her husband, John Pershing Henry, in 1950 and gave birth to one son, Jonathan, in 1954. She loved her family first and foremost. As the matriarch, she provided steadfast guidance and counsel to her family. Jean was active in her church. She enjoyed visiting over card games, good meals, and during all manner of gatherings of friends and family. Jean loved traveling, visiting many far-away places, and especially loved her family’s ancestral homeland, Norway. She was an avid reader of mysteries and historical fiction. Jean was blessed with a quick wit and loved a hearty laugh. She will be sorely missed by her loving family and friends. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon Edwin and Agnes Constance Lykken; and husband, John Pershing Henry. She is survived by her son, Jonathan (Angela) Henry; grandchildren, Paul Miller, Nick (Tiffany) Miller, Kyle (Jenn) Miller, Sarah Henry, Jason Miller, Nathaniel Henry, Matthew Henry; great-grandchildren, Aria Miller, Owen Miller; God-child, David (Mary) Stark. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, MI with the Reverend Paul Killom officiating. Interment will follow at Clinton Grove Cemetery, Mt. Clemens, MI.
