Jerry was one of the best teachers I had in high school (typing class).  We then became friends when I started teaching in Mount Clemens.  The nicest person you will ever meet!  Will be very happy when I see him again!

Senor Markham was my favorite and most memorable teacher at Mount Clemens HS, although I attended there only in my freshman year (1969-1970; we then moved as my family was Air Force at nearby Selfridge AFB).  I just found out about his passing from my older brother Norman, who was lucky to have him for 3 years.  I remember my brother talking about his wonderful teacher before I started high school and felt fortunate that I got him as my Spanish teacher too.  My sincere condolences to his family.

Jerry Markham was one of my Spanish teachers at Mt. Clemens High School in the 1960s, one of the best teachers and nicest people, and he encouraged me to attend college where I earned a doctorate. In going through old papers I found correspondence between Jerry and me that took place shortly after we both finished our stint at Ft. Knox.  For several years In the late 1950s we corresponded but eventually lost touch.  When I "googled" his old address in Mt. Clemens I was saddened to discover I had missed renewing  contact by just a few weeks

While serving in the Army at Ft. Knox Jerry and I began our friendship, both working in the AG's Headquarters.  We had many good times there and later exchanged our teacher stories (I taught English/Language Arts for 48 years.)

I wish I had reestablished contact and will miss that experience of again exchanging letters with Jerry.

Mr. Markham thank you for all your time and patience you invested in me as a teenager. You helped me through my rebellious period and are one of only two reasons i graduated and didnt drop out. As i remember my teenage years Mr. Markham you were a stabilizing force that saved my life. I often have thought about you over the last 30+ years and thank God that he placed you in my life at such a critical time for me. Thank you for everything that you did for me and never knew because i was such a snot and never thanked you. You will always be in my thoughts and prayers. I say thank you now but wish i would have before. I am sorry for that and will miss you Sr. Markham

My family lived near the Markham's in Mt. Clemens and I spent a good portion of my childhood at their house playing with M'liss.  Even though I was so young, I knew then what a special and caring man Mr. Markham was.  I have great memories of him taking me and M'liss as kids to see the MCHS production of Hello Dolly, and also going on a family trip with them to Mackinac Island.  I couldn't wait to be old enough to go to high school and take Spanish class, just so I could have him as my teacher.  He was a wonderful, thoughtful, and kind person inside and outside the classroom.  My sincerest condolences go out to M'liss and family.

Mr. Markham was my Spanish teacher at Mount Clemens High School. He was funny, always inspiring and totally supportive of all his students. He had a huge impact and influence on all who knew him. He sang in our First United Methodist Church and his voice was so rich and beautiful. I will always remember his laugh. Such a great teacher and inspiration to us all. Ill always remember him and so very glad he was part of my life.

I met Jerry on our first day of work at Mount Clemens High School in 1956.  Before classes started we were given the grand tour of the building by Dan Helfer.  For a time our classes met in adjacent rooms on the third floor of the west wing. Over the years Jerry and I would get together for lunch, and after retirement we would attend the "Kensington Mile" once a year.  It was just a hike in Kensington Metropolitan Park.  It wasn't a race and it was more than a mile in length.  In the past several years Dean Moltmaker joined us.  The walk always included much talk of Mount Clemens, our mutual acquaintances and our families.  It was followed by lunch at a local restaurant.  Unfortunately our last walk was less than a mile, because we chose to sit and talk rather than walk the usual path.  We must have looked in need of assistance because a lady, who was walking nearby, offered to get her car and drive us back to our cars. 

Jerry was a good friend and he will be forever in our memories.

Senor Markham was the favorite teacher of all for me ... in '64 a group of us became his first 3rd year Spanish class.... I continued on with a college major in Spanish, and thanks to his wonderful style, opted out into the 300 college level as a freshman !  He was a wonderful mentor, and instilled a love of languages in his students.. happily we re-connected in Battle Creek and enjoyed several dinners at Southern Exposure !  I will miss him, but his memories are forever in my heart !   Vaya con Dios !

so very sorry to hear this, he was a great man, we learned a lot from him, more than Spanish, many a conversation went on in class on how to deal with people. Prayers to the family for the strength to get through this difficult time.

Mr, Markham was my Spanish teacher my freshman year of high school in Mt. Clemens. I moved after my freshman year, and continued to take Spanish, but didn't enjoy it as much as I did with Señor Markham! He made it fun and exciting, and celebrated our successes in the classroom! He had a wonderful personality. Always smiling, and had a hearty laugh!

I just heard of Senor Markhams passing; he was my Spanish teacher at Mt Clemens High in the 80's. He was a wonderful teacher and I will never forget him!

I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Markham's passing.  Mr. Markham was my Spanish teacher at Mount Clemens High School several decades ago.  What a wonderful teacher and person!  He seemed so good-natured and kind, and his classes were fun!  We students learned a great deal from him.  Mr. (Senor) Markham left a lasting, positive impact on my life.  My sincere sympathy and condolences to the family.

Jerry was my typing teacher when I was in high school (early 60's) and later became a teaching colleague when I began teaching at MCHS in 1966.  What a wonderful person with a great sense of humor!  I'm sure many, many people will miss him!  He made the world a better place to be!  God Bless!

I was deeply saddened to see Mr. Markham's obituary in the Lansing State Journal.  I work at the Delta Twp. District Library and enjoyed seeing him almost every week checking out a wide variety of books to read.  What a pleasant, gracious, and kind gentleman he was.  I will truly miss seeing him.  My condolences to the family.

Tears came to my eyes as I came to work today at the Delta Township District Library and found out that Mr. Markham had died.  What a wonderful man!  I used to tease him about the wide variety of books he took out... he was in here every week, I think.  There was so much more to this man that I didn't know about. It is so interesting to see how he affected the lives of so many others.  He will be so missed - condolences to his family and friends.

My most sincere condolences to M'Liss, Jess, Curtis, Scott, and to all of Jerry's loved ones. I had the privilege and good fortune to meet Jerry, and to call him my friend. He was a gentleman in every sense of the word. I will always remember his quiet, beautiful spirit, along with the many kindnesses he showed me. I hope that each of you will take comfort in your memories of Jerry, as they will surely become a treasure to you. Good-bye sweet Jerry. You are loved and missed.

Mr.Markham was my Spanish teacher at MCHS in the '70's. One of my fav's. I currently live in Lansing after leaving Mt. Clemens and attending MSU. What a surprise to see him walking in the Lansing Mall a few years ago! It was so nice to be reconnected. My deepest sympathy to the family for your loss. Mr Markham was a special kind hearted guy and I will miss him. Peace and God's Blessings. I know he has his wings.

To me, he will always be Senor Markham. Today I am broken hearted.  We are less one earth angel now. Senor Markham was the best teacher I've ever had and 46 years later I still remember what he taught and how I loved to hear him sing songs in Spanish. Simply a wonderful caring human being. Soar high and rest peacefully.

I'm proud that I can call Jerry my friend. I have many lovely memories of him from working with him at Southern Exposure to a great trip to Chicago on the train. Thanks to Scott for bringing him into our lives.

Jerry will always be remembered for his loving nature and kind heart.  I am honored to have known him.

To you my friend a peaceful journey.  You meant so much to the Southern Exposure family and will be missed.  My heart and prayers to Jess and family at this time.

What a lovely man...a wonderful neighbor, kind, friendly. He seemed to love serving. I will miss seeing him ride by with his great smile and wave.
