Jewell earned a master’s degree in Social Work from LCC and dedicated herself to helping others. She had a remarkable ability to see beauty in everything and expressed this gift through her art. A talented artist who worked with all media, she also excelled as a seamstress. Her creativity knew no bounds, and she found joy in sharing her artistic talents with those around her.
Beyond her artistry, Jewell had a deep love for nature. She especially cherished sunrises over water and embraced every opportunity to witness their breathtaking beauty. She enjoyed fishing, going for drives, and indulging in what she fondly called "retail therapy," often frequenting garage sales. Her passion for gardening—her "dirt therapy"—brought her peace and fulfillment.
Jewell was known for her generosity and commitment to helping others. She played an active role in Native American Christmas parties and community events, always seeking ways to support those in need. She kept close track of the East Side neighborhood group and never hesitated to use resources like the "buy nothing club" to assist those less fortunate.
Her adventurous spirit was beautifully captured by a loved one who wrote: "The beautiful adventure queen, may you see every breathtaking sunrise and chase all the sunsets, with the most yard sales and endless photo-shoot opportunities." She also found joy in baking and dancing—especially when it came to the last piece of frybread.
Jewell is survived by her daughter Jessica; son-in-law Aaron; grandsons Kirt, Elijah, and Haidyn; beloved granddaughters-in-love; siblings Anthony (Jean), Andrew (Gloria), Jackie (Eddie), Carol (Mike), and Marybell (Phil); many nieces and nephews; special aunt Linda; and sister-in-law Kim. She was preceded in death by her parents Anthony Chingman Jr. and Roseanna Marie Martell, as well as her brother Sammy.
A visitation will be held on February 20, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Gorsline-Runciman Lansing Chapel, located at 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, Michigan, 48912. A service will follow visitation, starting at 1:00 PM.
Jewell’s kindness, creativity, and adventurous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May her memory continue to inspire those whose lives she touched.
