Kay Marlene Wilson (Thompson) was born October 6, 1937 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Howard and Clara Thompson. After graduating from Jackson Michigan High School, she enlisted in the US Army where she served in Japan. Kay’s life took her across Iowa and California before she settled in Holt, Michigan, where she built a lifetime of memories filled with laughter, love, and strength.
A proud single mother, Kay worked hard to provide for her family and enjoyed a 30-year career with the U.S. Post Office. She was known for her sharp wit, sassy humor, and independent spirit. Kay had a saying for everything and a knack for making people laugh.
She loved sitting in the sun, cheering for Michigan State, playing bingo, shopping, and visiting the Casino. Her favorite things included Elvis Presley, Tom Selleck, and Jack Lord—but nothing compared to the love she had for her family.
Kay celebrated every birthday, cherished Sunday dinners with her daughter Shannon, and loved spending time and taking photos with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her family was her greatest pride and joy, especially her great-grandson Mason, who shared her birthday.
Kay is survived by her two daughters, Linda (Virgil) Swaynie and Shannon (Scott) Morehouse; one grandson, Josh (Sarah) Swaynie, two granddaughters, Brandi (Joey) Harrison, Rachael Morehouse (Jordan Grow), and seven great-grandchildren, Tyler, Shelby and Riley Chance, Saleen and Camara Harrison, Cora North and Mason Swaynie. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Douglas Thompson and granddaughter, Kristina Chance, who she now joins in eternal peace.
Kay will be remembered for her humor, strength, and the love she poured into everyone she knew. Her laughter and spirit will forever live on in her family’s hearts.
The funeral will be held at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Avenue in Lansing, MI on Thursday October 9th, 2025. Visitation will be at 9:30AM, the Funeral will be at 10:30AM. Deepdale Cemetery to follow at 12PM.
