

Laura was born in Newberry, Michigan on April 5, 1961. She grew up in Adrian, Michigan as a young girl, later moving to East Lansing with her parents and brother, David. Laura graduated from East Lansing High School, later attending Lansing Community College and getting a degree from Sienna Heights University. She was a member of The Peoples Church of East Lansing, singing in their children’s choir. Laura enjoyed summer vacations with her family in Good Hart, Michigan; where they camped on their property on Lake Michigan. She was an avid movie goer and animal lover, especially dogs. In high school and in her 20s, she was a dog walker and house sitter for people in her neighborhood. She enjoyed shopping, going to restaurants, and taking summer trips to Saugatuck with her friends.
Laura was a quiet, caring and kind soul. She loved helping people, especially the elderly and later worked at Provincial House in East Lansing, making friends with many of the residents.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Dorman and Jean (Juillard) Skeels; grandparents; and several aunts and uncles. She is survived by her brother, David (Stephanie) Skeels of St. Johns and many cousins from the Adrian and Greenville areas,Traverse City, and California. She was especially close to her cousin, Sally (Skeels) Marvin, whom she spoke with almost daily.
Laura is also survived by her devoted close friends, Lynn Savage, Monica Sebenick, and Candy McMullen; and her helpful neighbors, Dawn Birmingham, Debbie Brewer, and Chuck Culver, and many others in her apartment complex. Laura will be deeply missed.
In accordance with Laura’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
Celebration of Life for Laura is being held on Saturday March 2, 2024 at 1:00 pm at The Peoples Church, 200 West Grand River Ave. East Lansing, MI 48864.
