

of Lansing, MichiganLewis George Long, our father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, born February 21, 1917, passed away March 13, 2008 to join his loving wife, Pauline C., of 64 years who predeceased him November 8, 2003. Lewis was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp, was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army and was a Staff Sergeant stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. He worked for General Motors for 34 years starting out as a line worker and eventually became a painter of all G. M. show cars of which he was very proud. After his retirement from General Motors in 1973, he and Pauline moved to their cottage at Pretty Lake in Mecosta County. They also spent their winters in Florida.
He was a man who loved his family and was very proud of their accomplishments. He loved to make bird houses, magazine racks, loved to play euchre and volunteered his time making Pancakes once a month for the gang at Covington Woods. Lewis is survived by sons, Bill (Sue) Long, Sr., of Grand Ledge, John G. Long of Lansing; daughter, Catherine (Fred) Cogswell of Lansing; grandchildren, Monica Walker, Bob (Colleen) Walker of Dimondale, Bill (Heather) Long, Jr. of Lansing, Aaron (Amie) Long of Dimondale, Bryan (Mark) Long of Dallas, Texas, Abigail (K.C.) Gooding of Lansing, Banyan J. Long of Benton, Kentucky; sister, Patricia A. (Charlie) Lorenz of Mesa, Arizona; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-grandson, Brayden A. Long due to arrive May 3, 2008; a host of nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, Pauline, his parents, three sisters and one great-granddaughter predeceased Lewis. Visitation will be 12-2PM Monday, March 17, 2008 with Funeral Services 2:00PM Monday at Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 West Saginaw, Lansing, 48917. Pastor James E. Robinson, officiating. Interment will be Deepdale Memorial Park with Military Honors by the Morley S. Oates V.F.W. Post #701. We would like to thank Dr. Ropp, Dr. Isaacs, Dr. DuPuis and the staff of Sparrow Hospital, Tendercare West and St. Lawrence Hospice House of Mid-Michigan for the love and compassion shown to our dad. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan in memory of Lewis.
