Lansing – Mabel E. Gender, 99, passed away on Monday, August 27, 2018. Born December 6, 2018 in Belding, Michigan to Ward and Lena Gould. Mabel was a charter member of Christ United Methodist Church. She worked at Fisher Body and started a new career as the Supervisor of the custom drapery department at Sears Roebuck until she retired after 23 years. Mabel was a life member of the Eastern Star Chapter #45 and a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary #12. She was a volunteer at Ingham Medical Center (McLaren hospital) for 25+ years working in various positions. Throughout the years she sewed doll blankets for Toys for Tots. Mabel was a member of the over 20 Club, Cornerstone Club, and the Southside community kitchen for 20+ years.
Mabel was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd Gender in 1997. Also, deceased are her 5 brothers (Dale, Glenn, George, Louie and Charles) and 3 sisters (Helen, Gertie, Hazel). Surviving are her daughters; Donna (Bob) Schiable, Sharon (David) McCabe, Nancy Gender, 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 6 great, great grandchildren. All will miss her tremendously.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, August 31, 2018 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home (900 E. Michigan Ave). Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday, August 30, 2018 5:00-8:00pm and one hour prior to the Friday service. Also, the family would like to extend an invitation to enjoy beverages and pastries at the visitation on Friday.
