Margaret Louise Cook passed away peacefully early in the morning on August 7, 2025, at Independence Village in Grand Ledge, at the age of 84. She was tended to by excellent caregivers. She was born in Lansing on January 9, 1941, to Dr. Don and Marian Hargrave and grew up in Eaton Rapids, where she attended school.
Marg attended Michigan State University, where she was a member and President of the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. She married Jacob Cook on August 11, 1962. Together, they lived in Spartan Village in East Lansing, St. Clair Shores and South Bend, Indiana, before settling in the Lansing and Okemos area.
Marg, in her own words, "worked, but not for pay." She was a tireless volunteer for the Youth For Understanding exchange program, placing students in the Lansing area; taught dyslexic students; volunteered at Sparrow Hospital; was an Optimist member; and served as President of several organizations, including the Elmhurst PTA and her condominium association. She and her husband hosted seven year-round exchange students in the late 1980s and early 1990s and befriended more than 100 other foreign students, mostly through MSU.
Margaret will be remembered for her boundless generosity, warm spirit, and deep commitment to her family and community. She is survived by her husband, her son (Jacob "Jay" Cook V), daughter-in-law (Marjana Cook), granddaughter (Ema Cook), and grandson (Jacob "Jake" Cook VI), and her special family Jan and Dayra Ladewig and their children Alina, Natalia and Lisa. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, friendship, and service that touched countless lives.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, August 15, 2025 at Okemos Community Church with visitation 10:00 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to a charity of choice. Those desiring to send flowers are asked to place orders with Al-lin's Floral & Gifts.
