Marie grew up in Webberville, Michigan, especially cherishing the time she spent with her grandparents and great-grandparents. Marie graduated from Webberville High School with academic honors as well as the distinction of Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow. She earned her nursing degree at Mercy School of Nursing at St. Lawrence Hospital, then began her career as a Registered Nurse at Lansing General Hospital (thereafter Ingham Medical and McLaren Greater Lansing). After taking time to stay home with her children, Marie later returned to nursing and provided more than 30 years of dedicated patient care.
Marie married Raymond Farrell, sharing many wonderful years before Ray’s passing. Together, they lived and farmed north of Williamston, Michigan before moving into town in their later years. Marie’s greatest joy was her family, and she reveled in visits and special events with loved ones. Marie soaked up every moment of goodness she could with those she adored, especially her precious grandchildren who could not have been more loved by their Nana.
Marie was a skilled seamstress who designed wedding dresses, costumes, quilts, and snuggly blankets for her grandchildren. She loved crocheting, cooking, baking, traveling, gardening, and watching birds. Marie had a special appreciation for antiques and old treasures.
Marie was a model of quiet strength with subtle, sassy spunk and a generous heart. To know Marie was to know true kindness embodied in the most humble of spirits. She lived to serve others and enjoy the gifts of everyday life.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband Ray, her parents Phyllis and Charles, and her beloved younger brother John. Although she has passed from this world, Marie’s spirit lives on through her daughters and sons-in-law Debbie (Patrick) and Carrie (Aaron), her grandchildren Tyler (Chelsea), Joshua (Sunshine), Alysia (Sean), Benjamin, and Jordan, and several great-grandchildren. Marie is also survived by her sisters-in-law Rene (Gary) and Vicki, a sister Melinda (Jim), nieces and nephews, and her grandchildren’s friends who all called her Nana.
Marie’s family extends their deepest appreciation to Dobie Road staff for providing exceptional, compassionate care that preserved her dignity and honored her personality. Marie was placed in your hands by the grace of God, and we are forever grateful.
A spring celebration of Marie’s life will be held at Haslett Community Church in Haslett, Michigan on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 2:00pm with a dessert reception following.
