She was the beloved daughter of Angel and Francisca Bonilla. Modesta shared 47 cherished years of marriage with her husband, Fidencio Gonzales Sr. Together they built a life rooted in love and family.
Modesta is lovingly remembered by her children: Fidencio Gonzales Jr., Robert Gonzales, and Lawrence Gonzales (Cheri). She was a proud grandmother to Christian, Angela, Christine, Victoria, Nick, Nolan, Marcia, Danielle, Chloe, Phoebe, Ashley, and Meghan. Her legacy continues through her 18 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Modesta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Fidencio Sr.; her son Crespín Gonzales; and by her siblings: Juana Rivera, Luz Salazar, Margarita Quesada, Maria Garcia, Angel Bonilla, and Antonio Bonilla.
Known for her strong spirit and independent nature, Modesta lived life with a youthful heart. Her deep faith guided her throughout the years. She found joy in the simple pleasures—spending time with loved ones at the casino or bingo hall and being uplifted by the sounds of mariachi music that always brought a smile to her face.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A visitation for Modesta will be held Tuesday, April 1, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at St. Mary Cathedral, 219 Seymour Ave, Lansing, MI 48933, followed by a funeral mass from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Burial will take place directly after services at Evergreen Cemetery in Lansing, Michigan.
