Nancy went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 after a courageous fight with cancer. She was born on December 16, 1949 to the late James E. and Esther Ann (Bernstein) Morell in Bad Axe, MI. She grew up with her brother, Ron, on a farm in Elkton (located in Michigan's Thumb). They attended Chandler Presbyterian Church where they were involved in Summer Vacation Bible School. She graduated in 1968 from Elkton-Pigeon-Bayport High School, where she sang in the school choir and also played the organ. After graduating, she borrowed $500 from her parents to attend Lansing Business University. For 9 years, starting in 1969, she worked for Auto Owners Insurance as a computer punch-card operator and eventually as a computer operator. When her son, James, was born in 1985, she gladly assumed her role as a stay-at-home mom. In 1992, she obtained her Real Estate License from Holloway's Institute in Lansing. She began her real estate career with Looking Glass Real Estate & Construction in DeWitt. She later moved to Re/Max's DeWitt office, where she was recognized as a President's Club Realtor. She then moved to Coldwell-Banker Hubbell Briarwood, from which she retired in 2011. She also served her professional community for many years on the Professional Standards Committee and the Forms Committee of the Greater Lansing Association of Realtors. While living in DeWitt, she served as Day Care Chairperson as well as on the Building Committee at Hope Lutheran Church; as Den Leader for Cub Scout Pack 277 and later Committee Member for Boy Scout Troop 77 in DeWitt (she was extremely proud of her Eagle Scout Son!); as District Activities Chairperson for the Chief Okemos Council; assisted with equipment management for the DeWitt High School Marching Band (and attended the Band's 2002 Europe Trip as a chaperone); helped provide "Tailgate Food" for the Spartan Marching Band Trombone section on MSU game days; and for the last several years after she retired, became a Red Hat Lady. In November 2014, she and Terry moved to their new permanent residence on the shores of Lake Mecosta in Mecosta, MI where she made a habit of catching bigger fish than her husband. She was also involved with the Dorcas Guild doing service work and quilting at Chapel of the Lakes Lutheran Church in Mecosta.
Funeral service is 11:00 AM Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Hope Lutheran Church, 1180 W. Herbison Rd., DeWitt with Rev. Dr. E. Anthony Sikora officiating. Visitation will be Friday 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw Street, Lansing and Saturday 10-11 AM prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the building fund at either Hope Lutheran Church in DeWitt or Chapel of the Lakes Lutheran Church in Mecosta.
