Phil was born February 14, 1951, in Lansing, MI, to Philip Ross Scarborough and Barbara J (Ames) Scarborough, who preceded him in death, as did his brother, Jeffrey Allen Scarborough.
Phil is survived by his beloved wife, Rona Landfield, whom he married on April 23, 2006. Also, by his brother, Steven C. Scarborough; sister-in-law, Linda A. Scarborough; niece, Shana R. Scarborough-Lamb and her husband Devin D. Lamb; nephew, Jeffrey Scarborough, Jr.; great nieces, Ava Scarborough-Lamb, Kaila and Rachel Scarborough; great nephews, Connor Scarborough-Lamb and Aiden Scarborough, friends, and co-workers.
Phil served his country as a SARGENT, 5678 COMBAT ENGINEER BATTALION US ARMY in Vietnam.
Phil became an electrician who wired many homes for families to live in, and who helped those who worked with him to manage their days a little better, for over 40 years. Phil was a cultured person, a graduate of Grand Ledge High School, who engaged in study at Lansing Community College and Rolland's College in Florida, participated in community theater, and in the education of young electricians in training.
Never idle, Phil fixed anything that sparked and made, gave, and sold all manner of useful, and sometimes lovely, models, leatherworks, and knives. Phil was serious – not sanctimonious – about his citizenship, working as an elections clerk, promoting fair housing, and helping the occasional candidate. He loved to be out on his boat or bicycle. He loved encountering toddlers and even volunteered at Sparrow hospital to wheel out new mothers and babies upon discharge. He was an avid deer and small game hunter for many years - mentoring many young people along the way. He loved fishing and considered it his duty to teach his friends and family as well. He befriended and fed certain squirrels. He was Funny, realistic, and open to hope, Phil was humble about himself, and proud in his friendships. Phil marveled every day that he had found Rona to cherish. As an observer, it was inspiring to behold the love that they shared, it shone through even the cloud of Dementia.
