R. Bruce Hidy

Lansing

Age 88, passed away Monday, August 18, 2014 surrounded by his family. Born November 22, 1925 in Fairfield, Iowa, Bruce retired with over 30 years of service as a draftsman and Chief Engineer at Lindell Drop Forge. In retirement, he continued to share knowledge and expertise as a consultant on countless projects. Bruce excelled in the industry, and he was one of the top ten in his field honored to be setting American Standards in metallurgy for the industry.

A devoted husband, father, and Christian, Bruce enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his children and their families, always looking for projects and ways to be helpful. His many hobbies included gardening, patiently restoring antiques, and creating flawless wood furniture for family and friends. He cared for his beloved wife, Charlotte, during the years of her declining health. As a faithful member of First United Methodist Church, he provided gifts of service for more than a decade, working daily and enjoying camaraderie with the other retired gentlemen as they worked together on small construction and maintenance projects at the church.

Bruce is survived by his 4 children, Linda (Chuck) Grettenberger, Loretta (Mike) Kremer-Pearson, David (Debbie) Hidy, and Bryan (Diane Strong) Hidy; 13 grandchildren Dr. Brenda Grettenberger, Karl (Mary) Grettenberger, Kevin (Julie) Grettenberger, Herman (Samantha) Grettenberger, Rebecca (Steve) Dutcher, William (Rachel) Kremer, Bryan B. Hidy, Benjamin Hidy, Christina (Fiancé, Nolan) Horn, Landon Hidy, Charles Hidy, David Hidy, and Christopher Hidy; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Charlotte A. Hidy in 2005; his parents, Ralph & Iva Hidy, and his sister, Ruth Hidy.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 22, at the First United Methodist Church, 3827 Delta River Dr., Lansing with Pastor Lori Sykes officiating. The family will receive visitors from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M.
