Richard “Dick” H. Hodges passed away peacefully at the age of 80 on Sunday, July 27, 2025. Dick was born in Lansing on November 2, 1944, to Helen and Houston Hodges. He was the middle child of 5 children. He graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in 1963. Shortly thereafter, he began working for the State of Michigan, Social Services Department, where he worked until retirement.
Dick was an avid Bingo player and a frequent visitor at nearby casinos. He enjoyed the company of a group of fellow bingo players who kept tabs on each other as they all began to age.
When his mother died in l995 Dick purchased the family home on Regent Street where he continued to live until his health forced him to be moved to an assisted living facility in 2024. He was proud of the fact that the home had been in the family for over 80 years and had the same phone number for that long as well.
Dick was preceded in death by both parents and his sister Janice. He is survived by sister Barbara (Wes) Schultz, two brothers Robert (Karen) and James and a loyal lifelong friend David Sonnenberg; nieces Jamie Sanders and Jami Tracy and nephews Chad Hodges, Dan and Brent Schultz and Sean Murray; a host of great-nieces and nephews; and a select group of special friends who kept in touch throughout the years.
Dick’s request was to be cremated with no funeral service. His wishes are being honored by his family.
The family wants to extend heart-felt thanks to the staff at Brookdale Assisted Living and Memory Care for the loving care given to Dick. Also, to his friends David, Justin and Steven who faithfully visited Dick and kept his spirits up, we offer our deepest appreciation.
