Roger Lee Burns

He was born on April 30, 1943 in Lansing, Michigan to Bernard J. Burns and Wilma L. Olmsted. He is preceded in death by his parents and his first born son, Brett Burns.

Roger graduated from J.W. Sexton High School in 1961. He served in the U.S. Army from July 1966 to June 1968, with one year in Vietnam. He graduated with his bachelors degree from Kent State University, Kent, Ohio, then moved back to Michigan with Penny.

Roger joined the Michigan State Police in 1973, retiring in 1997. He then worked for 8 years as a pre-trial investigator with the Ingham County prosecutors office. Following retirement, Roger spent his later years golfing with his friends and enjoyed traveling with Penny.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Penny (Hynes), children Tracey Sgambati (Tony) and Zachary Burns (Courtney), beloved grandchildren Evan and Peyton Burns, Sarah and Ty Sgambati; sister Diane Lehman (late Jim Lehman), brother Brian (Kay) Burns; special cousins, nieces and nephews, and numerous great friends.

Due to Covid restrictions, a private family service will be held, and when the weather turns warm again, a celebration of Roger's life will be held.
