Russell D. Slack, 73, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Sparrow Hospital with his children by his side. Russ was born July 25, 1943 in Lansing, MI. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Beverly, his parents Donald Slack and Dolores Hunter, and his in-laws Bernard and Maxine Mercier.
Russ is survived by his daughter, Melanie Peeler, son Tod (Jennifer) Slack, grandchildren Rusty and Coty Slack, Tyler, Jordan, Joseph and Courtney Peeler, Chris and Tyler Schuchaskie, sisters Sherrie (Jim) Corica, Michelle (Rod) Collins, Kathi (Dee) Webb, and brothers Jon (Cheryl), Don (Diane), David (Kathe) Slack, as well as many cherished friends.
Russ was employed with General Motors from October 8, 1963 until his retirement on August 1, 1999. He worked his way up to becoming a Production Engineer. He specialized in water leaks, squeaks and rattles on the new vehicles coming off the line. As part of his promotion he had to go back to school and attain his high school diploma. He graduated in 1980 from Adult Education and shared an open house celebration with his daughter.
Russ enjoyed hunting, fishing, and photography. He loved to tell stories and share pictures of the big buck he shot or the one that got away. He was a jack of all trades and a master at most everything his hands touched. He was a perfectionist by nature and paid very close attention to every detail of any project he took on. No one was a stranger to Russ. He would strike up a conversation with anyone that would listen.
Russ was a loving husband and father, who worked hard his entire life to provide for his family. He always held a special place in his heart for little ones and was looking forward to the birth of his first great granddaughter, Naomi in January. He will be missed greatly by all those that knew and loved him.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, October 17, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. at Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw, Lansing, MI. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.
