Ruth Moening-Pollock

Ruth Coppler, 73, of Lansing, Michigan, passed peacefully in her sleep Thursday, March 16, 2023. She was independent, smart, strong willed, courageous, and determined to overcome many adversities in her life. From birth, she lived life her way.

Ruth was born in Lansing and graduated from Sexton High School. She married her high school sweetheart in Germany during his service to the United States. She returned to Lansing during his Vietnam War tour.

Ruth was known across the state as a talented and award winning fiber artist. She raised angora rabbits, spun their hair into yarn, and created clothing and crafts. People of all ages and animals were attracted to her free-spirited nature. These characteristics are reflected in her occupations as a mail carrier, farm animal caretaker, and teacher’s assistant. Playing the accordion in her youth developed her love for music, especially Allison Krauss.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, James and Gloria Moening, and husbands, Jim Pollock and Mark Coppler. She is survived by her loving and protective son, Jason (Jasmine), and grandson Leon. Also surviving are her siblings Ila (Vance), Florida, Steve (Lori), Oregon, and nephew, David, Colorado.

A memorial and celebration of life will be held on April 4, 2023. Arrangements have been completed with Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Avenue, 48912. In an effort to accommodate travel and work schedules, an informal viewing and visitation will be held 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm, program and open microphone from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm, followed by a reception 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
