

Shirley Ann Burns, age 86, of Dimondale, Michigan passed away on Monday, April 18, 2022. Shirley was born September 27, 1935 in Lansing, Michigan to Rex and Freda Bennett. Shirley graduated from Portland’s St. Patrick's High School in 1953 and married the love of her life, John Burns, on October 22, 1955. Shirley worked as an administrative assistant in the food division of the State of Michigan’s Department of Agriculture. An accomplished seamstress, she also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and cross stitch, making numerous gifts for friends and family. Shirley and her family loved camping and traveling all over Michigan and Florida. Following retirement, John and Shirley spent their winters in Lehigh Acres, FL.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Linda; and son, Charles.
Shirley is survived by her husband, John Burns; daughters, Dana (Royce) Wolverton, Leanne (Dean) Hengesbach; son, Dan (Danette) Burns; grandchildren, Erin (Mike) Wolverton-Vargo, Elyce (Brian) Babcock, Lucy Hengesbach, Devon Hengesbach, Linda (Rishi) Mukherjee, and Sam Burns; great-grandchildren, Brandon and Colin Babcock; brothers, David (Jeanie), Tony (Judy), and Bruce (Noel) Bennett; and sisters, Mary (Ken) Kapustka and Jeanine (Calvin) Cross.
The family would like to thank Shirley's caregivers: Chelsea and Amy from McLaren Hospice, Donna from Home Instead, and the staff at Eaton Community Palliative Care.
The family will accept friends for a visitation on Sunday, April 24, 2022 from 4:00pm-7:00pm, with a Rosary starting at 7:00pm, at Gorsline Runciman Tiffany Chapel, 3232 W. Saginaw St Lansing, MI 48917.
A memorial service will take place Monday, April 25, 2022 at 1:30pm, with visitation starting at 12:30pm, at St. Gerard Catholic Church in Lansing.
