Steven George Miller was born to the late George and Ellen Jeane Miller on April 13, 1949 in Lansing, Michigan. Born in the post-WWII baby boom, Steve came up in one of the most dynamic periods of American history alongside sisters Cathy (Dave) Beck, Kris Machtel, and Mary Jo McGraw. Steve's large heart and kind disposition made him many dear friends and would ultimately lead to his wife, Theresa Miller. Steve and Theresa enjoyed 46 years of marriage and from it came their children, Sarae Miller, Anthony (Stephanie) Miller, Samuel (Tara) Miller, and S. Julius (Krysten) Miller. Over time the family would grow to include grandchildren Deyea, Malia, and Jaylen Miller, Xavier and Kayonna Wright, Kiran, Julius, Raegan, Penelope, Gwendolyn, and Aubrianna Miller, and great-grandson Rudy Thompson.
Steve's love for sports in his younger years would carry forth through his lifetime to be shared with his children and grandchildren. You could always find Steve cheering them on, both in the stands and in just about any other aspect of life. In his years on this earth, Steve touched many people. One such place he made an impact was in the decades he worked at O'Leary Paint Company. In his tenure with the company, he became close with the O'Leary family and became a staple of the company. They honored him with these words: "Steve was a mentor to a generation of paint people who learned integrity, grace, and a strong work ethic following his example." These same values he instilled in his children and grandchildren. He and his wife, Theresa, moved through life with a strong relationship with Jesus Christ, both enjoying His blessings and walking with Him through some of life's most trying challenges.
Steve was diagnosed with a rare form of lung cancer on December 18, 2020 and just over a month later on January 26th in the early hours of the morning, the disease claimed his earthly body and sent him to his heavenly home with his Lord and Savior, his mother and father, and his sisters Mary Jo and Kris. Steve leaves a legacy of unconditional love, free-flowing kindness, strong friendships and family relationships, and more. This legacy is carried forth by his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, his sister, Cathy, and all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Wounded Warrior Project or Sparrow Home Hospice.
A livestreamed memorial service will be held at 4:00pm on Thursday, February 4, 2021.
